Former MEGADETH Guitarist Signs With Japanese Cell-Phone Company
September 3, 2004Former MEGADETH guitarist Marty Friedman has signed on with top Japanese cellular company AU to do a weekly spot for those who subscribe to AU's "EZ" channel. EZ channel is similar to cable TV but for your cell phone. Subscribers to this cutting-edge service receive film clips (news, events, music reviews, etc.) nightly in their cell phones and can watch at their leisure even when there is no signal. Marty's segment will have him talking music, playing guitar, visiting his favorite spots in Japan, and more. Filming begins early September and service will begin in October.
Marty is currently in the studio working on demos for a new solo album. Early tracks are slightly in the vein of "Cheer Girl Rampage", but as usual, Marty has plenty of twisted surprises in store. He is also writing and recording new music for Aikawa Nanase.
Upcoming MARTY FRIEDMAN live appearances:
Sep. 05 - Supein mura, JPN (w/ AIKAWA NANASE)
Sep. 12 - Utsunomiya, JPN (w/ AIKAWA NANASE)
Nov. 10 - Osaka, JPN @ Quattro
Nov. 13 - Tokyo, JPN @ Amrax Hall
The last two dates are live events sponsored by Roland/Boss, and Marty will perform music from his solo albums. His band will feature Jun-ji (ex-SIAM SHADE) on drums and Masaki (ANIMETAL) on bass. John Petrucci (DREAM THEATER) will also appear at the Osaka show on November 10.
Marty also has a very special surprise coming up this year with Roland/Boss with which fans worldwide can get actually their hands on the raw studio tracks of a brand new Marty song. More information will be made available soon.
Friedman recently did a long interview and photo session for an eight-page piece which will focus on his early works like CACOPHONY and HAWAII. This is for a book to be published by Shinko Music. Additional details will follow.
